A fight between two bulls claimed the life of a 37-year-old resident of Budanpur village in Sector 16 here on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Parwana Singh, who worked as a blacksmith, and was staying in a temporary shed along with his family.

His brother, Ahmda Singh, said his brother had recently met with an accident due to which there were injury marks on his head. His vision was also poor. In the afternoon, he was sitting on a cot outside his home when two fighting bulls came close to him. One of the bulls hit his brother on the head and he fell down. He was rushed to the General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where he died, he said.

Ram Singh, a neighbour, said after Parwana was hit by the bull, his old wounds opened up and he started bleeding. Fight between stray cattle is a common sight here, he said.

Balkar Singh, in charge of Police Post, Sector 16, said they had recorded the statements of family members and neighbours of the deceased and initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.

Replying to a query on taking any action against MC officials, he said they were investigating the matter.

Officials turn a blind eye to stray menace

The MC officials are responsible for dealing with stray cattle menace in the city. Recently, she had even sent pictures of stray cattle roaming around in her ward to MC officials, but no action was initiated. The MC should set up a temporary shelter, so these stray cattle can be shifted there. The officials are busy ensuring open defecation free (ODF) status for the city but do not pay heed towards issues, such as stray menace, which has now cost a man’s life. — Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia, Mayor

New Gaushala coming up

It is very unfortunate. At present, all gaushalas in the district are packed to full capacity. The MC is constructing a gaushala at Sukhdarshapur village. Soon, a portion will be constructed and the MC will shift stray cattle there.— Rajesh Jogpal, Municipal Commissioner

‘MC has failed common man’

The five-year term of Municipal Corporation House is coming to an end but the MC has failed to tackle any issue, be it stray cattle or sanitation, which concerns the common man. The MC has failed in its duty towards citizens. — Kulbhushan Goyal, INLD leader

Victim’s Kin seek compensation

The deceased had no pucca house and was residing at a temporary shelter in the village. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter. His family has sought financial compensation from the district administration and the MC.
