The third linen laundry of the Northern Railway in the region, set up at the Chandigarh railway station, will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday. He will also inaugurate various projects of Punjab and Haryana from the city railway station.

Northern Railway General Manager AK Puthia visited the station today to review the preparations for the minister’s visit. He said besides the laundry, the minister will also inaugurate a new railway line from Jind to Sonepat.

The laundry has been set up after a large number of complaints were received from passengers regarding unclean linen being provided to them during journeys.

The laundry, set up at a cost of Rs 1 crore, will be used for washing two tonnes of cloth, including bedsheets, pillow covers, hand towels, bathroom towels and blankets, in a shift of eight hours.

Prabhu is expected to meet the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana regarding various railway projects hanging fire for long. He will also review work on various railway projects .
