Chandigarh, June 7

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) in collaboration with the State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, is organising 'Regional workshop on Child Labour' on Friday and Saturday at UT Guest House, Chandigarh. The Commission intends to make Chandigarh a child-friendly city and one of the key prerogatives to accomplish the objective to make Chandigarh child labour-free city. 

The Commission informed that it wants to ensure that domestic child labour, begging, rag-picking and other forms of labour which deprive a child of his childhood, potential, dignity or adversely affects a child's physical or mental health must be abolished. The purpose of the regional workshop is to build a mechanism to combat child labour and help them to recover their childhood. Additionally, build mechanisms in the region for proper rehabilitation of children in contact of law.

In the evening, a street play was held in Sector 17 and chairperson of the CCPCR Harjinder Kaur talked to children working as vendors in the plaza.
