Chandigarh: Pooja Sangwan, a trainee of Lake Club, has been selected to represent the nation in the upcoming Jakarta Asian Games.

Chandigarh: Pooja Sangwan, a trainee of Lake Club, has been selected to represent the nation in the upcoming Jakarta Asian Games. The Games are scheduled to start from August 18. Pooja  a Panchkula resident, won a bronze medal in the single scull event of the 2014 Challenger Sprint Rowing Championship in Kolkata, followed by a gold medal in the 2015 All-India Inter-University Rowing Championship. Thereafter, she participated in the 16th  Asian Rowing Championship in China. She then won silver medals in the 200m and the 500m single scull events during the Senior National Championship in Hyderabad. She has also won six silver medals in various events in All-India Inter-University Rowing Championships from 2016 to 2017.    

Chess meet from June 30 

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Chess Association will organise U-19 Open and girls’ Chess Championship at St. Xavier’s School, Sector 44, on June 30 and July 1. A total of four boys and four girls in each category will be selected to represent Chandigarh at the Nationals, to be held in Delhi from December 3 to 11. Interested players can confirm their entries at the tournament venue before June 29 or at www.chandigarhchess.com.

Umang wins tennis meet 

Mohali: Top seed Umang Singh Cogi defeated Divyam 4-1 4-1 to win the final match of the boys’ U-12 category on the concluding day of Roots Open Tennis Championship here today. In the final of the boys’ U-14, Rishi Dahiya beat Kanwarpreet Singh 4-1 4-2, while Chaitanya Dua won the boys’ U-16 title by defeating Dhairya Chadha 4-2 4-2. In the girls’ U-10 category, Shraswati defeated Hitanshi 2-4 4-1 4-1, while Prathistha Saini won the girls’ U-12 title by registering 2-4 4-1 4-2 win over Sidhak Kaur. TNS
