The Mohali police rounded up a person after recovering Rs 19 lakh, all in Rs 1,000 notes, from his possession at the airport here this afternoon.
Inspector Harsimran Singh Bal, in-charge of the police station at the airport, said the person in question was Ved Parkash Kataria, a resident of Greater Kailash, New Delhi.
“We rounded him up during checking at the airport. Kataria landed here from a Delhi-bound flight this afternoon. During the search of his luggage, we recovered the cash,” said the inspector.
The cash was wrapped in 19 packets and put in the folds of clothes, said the police.
After lodging a daily diary report, the police informed Income Tax Department officials and handed over Katatria and the cash to them.
“Investigations are on,” said an IT official.
