CHANDIGARH: In a case of hit-and-run, a scooterist died after a recklessly driven car fled after hitting his scooter at Sector 49, this afternoon.

In a case of hit-and-run, a scooterist died after a recklessly driven car fled after hitting his scooter at Sector 49, this afternoon.

The police said the unidentified middle-aged man died after a car hit his scooter. Although the registration number of the car could not be noted down, the passersby claimed that it was a Ford Figo, which fled from the spot after hitting the scooter.

The police was informed about the incident and victim was rushed to the PGI, where he was declared brought dead.

Inspector Baljit Singh, SHO, Sector 34 police station, said that the victim was not carrying any identity proof at the time of accident, following which his identity could not be established. “The victim was carrying a mobile phone which got damaged in the accident. We are retrieving the phone numbers stored in the mobile phone to establish the identity of the deceased”, the SHO added.

Police sources said the CCTV footage of the Sector 49 lightpoint is being scrutinised to identify the vehicle. The body has been kept at the mortuary.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered.
