Sec 15 residents go for green Diwali

CHANDIGARH:In a bid to spread a message of ‘pollution-free’ festivities, members of the Welfare Society, Sector 15, here, celebrated a community Diwali programme at the Community Centre, Sector 15, Chandigarh, on Thursday.

In a bid to spread a message of ‘pollution-free’ festivities, members of the Welfare Society, Sector 15, here, celebrated a community Diwali programme at the Community Centre, Sector 15, Chandigarh, on Thursday.

The society, which has been dedicated to senior citizens above 90 years of age, also honoured five senior citizens — Kirpal Singh (93), Gurdip Singh Sethi (92), Sat Pal Bhatia (91) and Dr JL Handoo (91) — during the function.

Locals residents who were present on the occasion resolved to not to buy crackers and have a environment-friendly Diwali.

Ravi Kant Sharma, president of the society, encouraged the residents to spread the message of a cracker-free Diwali and also contribute to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
