Government dispensary in Sector 20 here is crying for attention. While dry leaves and piles of garbage dot the surrounding of the dispensary, the condition of the corridor where the dispensary is located is also deplorable.

Wild growth and ‘beedi’ butts can be seen on the corners of the dispensary where the room of the doctor is located. To top it all, it becomes a safe haven for tipplers during the evening.

Area residents rue that they have lodged several complaints to the authorities concerned about the filth and garbage inside the dispensary, but no action has been take so far.

“The dispensary is in a complete mess and nothing has been done to address the problem. During the monsoon, the surrounding of the dispensary turns into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The MC authorities were requested to clean the place, but nothing has been done,” said Rakesh Kumar, of the area resident.

JP Bansal, doctor at the dispensary, said he ensures cleanliness in the corridor of the dispensary. “Yes, it is true that garbage dots the complex. Since the dispensary is run by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, they have to maintain cleanliness here,” said Bansal.

He said garbage was thrown by people who run eateries adjoining the boundary wall of the dispensary during the evening. “Efforts are made to displace these eateries, but to no avail,” said Bansal.

“Registration fee at the dispensary is merely Rs 1 or Rs 2. Most of the time, patients do not have the coins of smaller denominations. So, employees here deny issuing prescription slips and tell us to first arrange the the coins of smaller denominations,” said one of the area residents.
