The Punjab Irrigation Retired Engineers Association in collaboration with Homoeo Research and Reform Society on Sunday organised a one-day seminar-cum-workshop at Engineers’ Bhawan here on health awareness to increase willpower and strengthen the immune system.

Dr KL Bhargava, president of Homoeo Research and Reform Society, in his lecture explained that “just like nature which controls the whole universe by its automatic laws, our body also controls all functions of our internal vital organs and keeps itself healthy.”

He elaborated that “whatever food we take contains certain percentage of various salts, metals, minerals and poison which get absorbed in our body through the digestive system and play a vital role for the growth and maintenance.”

He also explained how fat, proteins, enzymes and other building blocks were separated, extracted and absorbed from the food by trillions of cells which work day and night like a factory having skilled and unskilled workers. They get specific instructions from their DNA for making proteins which include enzymes and hormones that help the body grow, work properly and stay healthy.

While addressing the gathering, an acupressure expert, Prof AS Bhatia, emphasised the role of endocrine glands which assist and control vital internal organs for their proper functioning. He also gave a demonstration with the help of various acupressure charts pinpointing those spots on the periphery by applying pressure on which one could improve memory, concentration, willpower and immune system. MN Shukla, a yoga trainer, also gave a demonstration on breathing and pranayam exercises.
