Panchkula, December 12

The Panchkula Municipal Corporation has earlier included the agenda item of censure motion against violence on August 25 in Panchkula for the MC House meeting on December 14. However, sensing criticism, the Municipal Corporation has now dropped the agenda for the House meeting.

The agenda was included on Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia’s request and even the agenda was also circulated to the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and other councillors. But now all of a sudden the agenda was dropped from the meeting.

Sources revealed that the officials thought the discussion on the agenda would ultimately damage the image of the Haryana Government, therefore the agenda was dropped.

Mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia said she had included the agenda as till date people, whose vehicles and properties were damaged, have not got any compensation from the government. She has no idea how the officials dropped the agenda. She would look into this matter, she added.

Meanwhile, MC Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal, said earlier the agenda was included inadvertently. The agenda was dropped as the Haryana Government and the police had controlled the situation effectively, he added.

As many as 35 persons were killed and more than 200 injured in violence on August 25 after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted by a special CBI court for the rape of two sadhvis.
