A local transporter’s daughter, Simranpreet Kaur, has topped Mohali district in the Punjab School Education Board Class X examinations, the results of which were declared here this morning. She scored 97.69 per cent marks.

Ridhi Jain of Baby Model Senior Secondary School, Banur, got 97.08 per cent marks and was placed second while Manish Kumar, a student of Dashmesh Khalsa Public Senior Secondary School, Mohali, bagged the third spot in the district with 96.92 per cent marks.

The district topper, Simranpreet Kaur, who has bagged the 12th rank in the state with 97.69 per cent marks, is on cloud nine as her hard work and dedication have paid off. “I have left my parents’ house for my studies and am staying with my aunt and uncle, who are science lecturers,” said Simranpreet Kaur, whose parents are matriculate.

Simranpreet’s uncle Kuldeep Singh, a physics lecturer, said as Simran wanted to be a top scientist, “we shifted her to our house and got her admitted to Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gharuan, where her aunt is a chemistry lecturer”.

“I did not take any tuition and studied regularly,” said Simran, sharing her success mantra. Her uncle’s family has no television. “My cousin Harshdeep Kaur was the Class XII topper in the district two years ago. She is my inspiration,” said Simran. Her elated father, Lakhvir Singh, who resides at Dera Bassi, said since he and his wife were just matriculate, they wanted to see their daughter highly educated. “Earlier, I was a truck driver. Now, I own seven trucks. I know the value of education,” said Lakhvir Singh.
