Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation started a drive against water wastage on Sunday. During the drive, which started in the morning, notices were issued to 119 people, while a challan of Rs 2,000 each was issued to seven owners of houses, who were found wasting potable water.

During the  drive, which started in the morning, notices were issued to 119  people, while a challan of Rs 2,000  each was issued to seven owners of houses, who were  found  wasting potable water. An officer of the MC said 18 teams carried  out checking from 5.30 am to 9 am. The notices were issued for leakage in overhead tanks and  other violations. TNS

Youth held for snatching chain

Chandigarh: A 19-year-old youth, a native of UP, has been arrested for snatching a silver chain from a minor boy. The police said the complainant, Anand Parkash, a resident of Singha village in Mohali, reported that his 13-year-old son had gone to take a bath at a pond in the forest area behind the PGI when a youth snatched his silver chain and escaped from the spot on Sunday afternoon. A team, led by Sub-Inspector Mohan Singh, nabbed the accused, Sunny (19). The accused is a labourer. TNS
