Work at the office of the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has been affected as the department has failed to update the software following the enhancement of fee for various services.

Sources said the software was being updated to include the changes.

The RLA had recently increased the fee for various services, including licence, transfer of vehicles and new registration.

The Administration has adopted a notification issued by the Centre, aimed at making the fee uniform all over the country.

The fee for learner’s licence, driving licence test, registration of light motor vehicles and registration of imported vehicles has been increased. The late fee for renewal of licence and the fee for international licence have also been increased.

The sources said while the department had enhanced the fee, the  work regarding updating the  software  was yet to be completed.

Applicants have been facing the  problem  for  the past  one  week. The department has  pasted public  notices in the  office  stating that the server  is under maintenance  and  at present  only work regarding  registration of new  vehicles  and issuance of duplicate RCs  is  going on due to the technical fault  in the system on account of the enhancement of the  fee.

Sumant, a resident, said he went to the office for the  transfer of a vehicle but was told to  come  after a few days. He said the  department  should  have  made proper  arrangements so  that  the public did not suffer.  While Capt Karnail  Singh, in-charge  of the RLA, could not  be contacted, sources  said the work regarding updating the  software  was almost  complete and  normal  functioning would resume  soon.
