Chandigarh, September 29

Soon, the Tejas train will reduce the travel time between Chandigarh and New Delhi to two hours and 55 minutes. At present, three Shatabdis ply between the two stations and the travel time is three hours and 30 minutes.

With the introduction of the Tejas, which will ply six days a week on this stretch, the travel time will reduce by 35 minutes.

The Railway Ministry has given approval for plying the train from the city. According to the time table released by the Railways, the train will ply six days a week except Wednesdays. The train will have 12 coaches — nine chair cars, an executive chair car and two “regenerative vans”. The Tejas fare chart is awaited from the ministry.

Railway officials said the Tejas would not have any “commercial stoppage” while plying from New Delhi to Chandigarh and vice versa. In the new time table announced today, the Railway Ministry informed Ambala Division that the Tejas would ply between Chandigarh and New Delhi. However, its date of commencement is yet to be announced.

Ambala Divisional Railway Manager Dinesh Kumar said the Tejas would ply at 130 kmph from New Delhi to Ambala while from Ambala to Chandigarh, its speed would be 110 kmph. He said they had received a communication regarding the approval of the Tejas for Chandigarh, but the commencement date was awaited.
