Soon, travel to Delhi on train faster than Shatabdi

CHANDIGARH: After Shatabdi, another superfast train will ply between the city and Delhi and cover the distance in less than three hours.

After Shatabdi, another superfast train will ply between the city and Delhi and cover the distance in less than three hours.

Dinesh Sharma, Division Railway Manager (DRM), said the long-awaited Tejas Express would run six days a week, except for Wednesday. The stoppage of the train would be less as compared to the other superfast trains.

It will complete its journey from in 2 hours and 55 minutes. Shatabdi takes 3 hours and 20 minutes to cover the same distance.

As per the schedule, the trail will depart from the New Delhi railway station at 9.40 am and will reach Chandigarh at 12.40 pm. It will leave the city at 2.35 pm and reach Delhi at 5.30 pm.

Presently, three Shatabdi trains ply between Chandigarh and Delhi. Tejas will be the fourth superfast train on the route.

Though timings of the train have been released, there is no announcement on the date of its launch.

Sources said the railway authorities were waiting for the double- track project between Ambala and Chandigarh to complete before starting the train, adding that the project was likely to be completed by December.

Meanwhile, as per the revised schedule, Chandigarh-Ramnagar weekly Intercity Express will now leave the city at 4.10 pm against 4 pm earlier.
