The UT Administration today issued fresh orders making speed governors must for all transport vehicles by December 31.

UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore issued the orders making the speed governor, a speed-controlling device, mandatory in all transport vehicles, including school buses and CTU buses, by December 31.

The Administrator stated that speed governors conforming to Standard AIS: 018 should be fitted in the buses.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had also asked the authorities  to install speed governors in the school buses.

According to the notification, transport vehicles (medium/heavy; goods or passenger) registered prior to July 31 this year, if not fitted with a speed governor, should be equipped on or before December 31 with a speed governor having a maximum  pre-set speed of 80 kmph or such lower speed limit as may be specified by the Chandigarh Administration. The categories of transport vehicles carrying hazardous goods and vehicles such as dumpers, tankers  and school buses/local CTU buses registered prior to July 31 and not already fitted with a speed governor should be equipped on or by December 31 with a speed governor having a maximum pre-set speed of 60 kmph or such lower speed limit as may be specified by the Chandigarh Administration.
