An all-round performance helped DAV College, Chandigarh, beat Government College, Hoshiarpur, by 172 runs in the Panjab University Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the PU grounds here today.
Put into bat, DAV College amassed 232 runs for the loss of five wickets in 40 overs, with Arjit and Ujjwal scoring a half-century each. While Ujjwal was dismissed on 50, Arjit remained unbeaten (50 not out) to take his side to a challenging total. Shasya Jamwal struck a decent 49. Harpreet Singh claimed four wickets for the bowling side.
Needing 233 to win, Government College batters were bowled out for just 60 runs as Parvesh Sharma returned with a fifer. He was well supported by Ishan Arora, who bagged two wickets for DAV.
Ashish Ghai (35) was the only Government College batsman to reach double digits.
In the second match of the day, SGGS College, Sector 26, rode on Raman Bishnoi's fifer to seal a six-wicket win against SCD College, Ludhiana.
Opting to bat, SCD College could only manage 104 runs in their allotted 40 overs as Raman (5/13) and Arshdeep Singh (4/20) put the opposition on a tight leash.
Puneet Kapoor (28) was the highest scorer for the Ludhiana outfit.
In reply, SGGS scampered home in the 18th over. Ankit Choudhary scored 31, while Raman Bishnoi contributed 22 runs to the chase. For SCD College, Akash Kumar took two wickets.
