Chandigarh, April 28

An all-round effort helped Chandigarh gain command over Gurdaspur on the opening day of the U-16 ML Markan Trophy at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, here today.

At the close of the day’s play, the city boys were going strong at 128/0 after restricting the visitors to 159 in their first innings. Yuvraj Rai was playing on 75 and giving him company at the other end was Harnoor on 51.

Earlier, opting to bat, Gurdaspur were bowled out within 64 overs as Chandigarh attack led by Arshnoor Singh put the opposition on a tight leash. Arshnoor claimed 4/41, while Jaskirat Singh (2/18), Yuvraj Chaudhary (2/31) and Sairaj  (2/39) bagged two wicket each.

Mohali in command

Arshdeep Singh claimed a seven-for as Mohali bundled out hosts Amritsar for 137 runs at Gandhi grounds on Friday.

Electing to bat, Amritsar lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to gain any momentum as Arshdeep creamed through the hosts’ batting line-up.

Parth Pathria (23) and Sahil Kumar (21) showed some appetite for fight but failed to carry the team to a respectable total.

Mohali in reply, started off poorly as they lost one of their openers without scoring. Rushil Srivastwa (28 not out) and Manvir Singh (25 not out) then put on a 58-run stand for the second wicket before the umpires called off the day’s play.

Amritsar all out for 289

At Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala, the hosts led by Yudhvir Singh scored 289 runs in their first essay against Faridkot.

Yudhvir scored a solid 155-ball 85 to provide stability to the Patiala innings.

Harmanjit Singh claimed 4/90, while Harsimran Singh took 3/75 as the visitors folded up the Patiala innings in 99.3 overs. At the close of the play, Faridkot were batting at  9/1.
