Patiala, November 30

Patiala Royals is the name by which Punjabi University, Patiala, will be known both in India and and the USA. The university has adopted this sports name in co-operation with the EUSAI, a company working for commercialisation of Indian university sports.

The EUSAI, which had earlier promoted the inter-zonal basketball (men) team of the university for two years on Ten Sports in India and Tv Asia in the USA, has now began to work on bringing the much-needed sports culture by promoting and spreading awareness among the masses, ultimately creating a fan following for university sports.

The logo for Punjabi University and a basketball kit was launched by Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh; Dr Kulbir Singh Dhillon; Dean (Colleges); Dr Gudeep Kaur, Director (Sports), Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu, Controller (Examination); and Dr Dalel Singh, former Director (Sports), Kurukshetra University, amidst much fanfare.

On the occasion, Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, president, EUSAI, said their aim was to attract people towards university sports and they were confident that residents of the city would link to the name.

The guest promoter of Patiala Royals, Pollywood actor Binu Dhillon, said,  “This was the requirement at the grassroots level and I am privileged to promote my university at such a big platform,” he said.
