A dozen male and female dancers, led by programme director and choreographer Dr Mudiyanse Dissanayake, started the performance with a dance seeking the blessings of God. A mask dance performance, an integral part of folk theatre called Kolam, depicted the conflict between Gurula and Naga.

The dancers, attired in dazzling Kandyan costumes, performed Ves dance marked with different  intricate rhythmic patterns and another folk dance ‘surambavalli’ eulogising the beauty of a village girl. The reverence for deities came alive in the dance sequence ‘Telme’. Another folk dance number ‘Paturu’ was performed only by four women dancers.

The melody grace and folk fervor pervaded the concluding orchestra performance.

Earlier, ICCR regional director Nalini Singhal welcomed guests of honour Davinder Singh, DIG (ITBP), Surinder Kaur (IRS) and Dr Bhushan K Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College.
