Three days after Chandigarh Tribune highlighted how the multi-level parking site near the Mini-Secretariat had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, the authorities seem to have woken up, but only after a second reminder. The “lax attitude” of the authorities was once again highlighted in these columns today, following which they swung into action.

PWD officials reached the site this morning along with a JCB machine to level the site around the building where stagnant water had accumulated. Kadyan, Junior Engineer, PWD, said, “We found that the water was coming from the Mini-Secretariat. We are connecting a pipe to the outlet to prevent water from getting accumulated again.”

Later, workers were deployed to apply coal tar at the base of the walls and fix a waterproofing sheet. The JE said they took care to prevent breeding of larvae in stagnant water by pouring diesel.
