Station to be developed on priority

CHANDIGARH:The city railway station will now be developed as world class on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode after talks with a private company in this regard failed.

The city railway station will now be developed as world class on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode after talks with a private company in this regard failed.

This was stated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today while inaugurating several projects at the railway station here. He said talks held between the company and the ministry did not materialise due to which work on the project  was yet to be commence. He said the project was on the priority list of the Railways. Northern Railway General Manager AK Puthia would monitor the project. Besides, the process for the semi-high-speed project between Delhi and Chandigarh would commence soon, he said. According to the plan, the railway station will be developed on 500 acres. It will be a self-financed project through commercial development of 2.5 million sq ft area. The plan has been prepared on the pattern of international airports.
