Justice AK Mittal and Justice Amit Rawal of the Punjab and Haryana High Court have directed officers of Haryana to take immediate steps to stop flow of sewage from Saketri to Sukhna Lake.

The Judges, along with officers of the Chandigarh Administration, Haryana and Punjab, visited the lake today. Mukesh Anand, Special Secretary, Engineering Department, UT, was also present on the occasion.

The Judges first visited the Kaimbwala area where they were shown the steps taken by the Administration to stop the sewage of the village to flow into Sukhna Lake. The officers informed them that a new pipeline was laid to divert the sewage of the village.

The Judges also visited the regulatory end where they directed the officers to increase the numbers of the toilets. The Judges also directed the officers to increase the workers engaged to remove lotus from the lake. The Judges were also apprised of the steps to remove the weed from the lake, which has almost completed now.

Sources said the Judges were satisfied with the water level of the lake that has reached to the highest level of 1161.50 ft this season.

The management of Sukhna Lake is under the scanner of the court, which directed states concerned and the Administration to take a slew of measures to increase the water level. It was on the direction of the court that the Administration released the water from seven tubewells to Sukhna Lake when the level was reduced to the worrisome level.
