Zirakpur, May 25
In yet another fatal accident caused by a stray cow on the Chandigarh-Ambala flyover at Zirakpur, a Shimla-based 23-year-old youth was killed while two others sustained minor injuries when the SUV they were travelling in first hit the median and then rammed into a pole here early on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ravinder Verma, a native of Shimla, who was putting up in Chandigarh. Those injured were Karanranbir Singh (27) and Jawinder Singh (28), residents of Chandigarh and Zirakpur, respectively.
According to sources, Karanranbir Singh, who was behind the wheel, reportedly lost control over the vehicle in order to save a stray cow on the Zirakpur flyover. The car veered to the other side of the highway, killing Ravinder on the spot, who was sitting next to the driver’s seat.
Baljit Singh, investigating officer, said the incident occurred around 4.30 am on Friday when Karanranbir Singh, along with his two friends, Ravinder and Jawinder, was coming towards the Zirakpur side from Chandigarh to drop Jawinder.
The police handed over the body of the deceased to his kin after an autopsy at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. The deceased, Ravinder, was preparing for competitive exams.
