Stray dogs bite 2 children, labourer in Mohali

Mohali: Three persons, including two children, were bitten by stray dogs in different parts of the town.

Three persons, including two children, were bitten by stray dogs in different parts of the town.

In the first incident, three-year-old Satyan Yadav, who was sitting in front of his house at Badhmajra village, was attacked by a stray dog. The canine bit the child on the face and arms. Satyan, who sustained injuries on his eyebrows and arms, was saved by his family members from the dog.

Another vicitm, eight-year-old Diljot Singh, a resident of Phase V, was returning home with his mother after his tuition when two stray dogs attacked the mother-son duo. “Diljot was riding his bicycle when two dogs attacked us all of sudden. I escaped unhurt while one of the dogs bit my son on the thigh,” said Ramanpreet Kaur, mother of the victim.

The third victim, Parveen Kumar, a labourer and resident of Mataur village, was attacked by a dog when he was returning home after work. He was bitten on his ankle and hand. The victims were taken to the Civil Hospital, Phase V, Mohali. 

13 cases in 2 days

There has been a spurt in dog-bite cases recently. According to sources at the Civil Hospital, 13 dog-bite cases were received by the hospital in the past two days. The victims also included an infant.   

A senior medical officer, Dr Om Raj Goldie, said of late, they were receiving eight to 10 dog-bite cases daily. “We have adequate anti-rabies vaccine here,” he said, adding that serious cases were being referred to hospitals in Chandigarh.
