Patiala, November 8
Several schoolchildren suffered injuries after an ‘overloaded’ auto-rickshaw overturned here this morning.
The accident took place when the auto driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with a divider.
The accident took place around 8 am on the bus stand flyover. The auto-rickshaw was on its way to the school after ferrying students.
Children received minor injuries in the mishap. They were taken to a nearby hospital for administering first-aid.
Eyewitness claimed that the auto-rickshaw was ferrying students beyond its capacity, due to which the driver lost control over the vehicle. The three-wheeler even didn’t have a proper number plate.
“Non-compliance of rules by errant drivers endangers the lives of innocent children travelling in overloaded auto-rickshaws,” said an eyewitness.
The Station House Officer of Lahori Gate said they were not informed about the incident.
