Chandigarh, April 27

A group of nearly 25 students from the Government College of Art, Sector 10, have been assigned the responsibility of designing murals — to be installed at the upcoming international airport in Mohali.

The assignment includes designing a two-horse cart, a bullock cart, a choupal and a mural of Lord Krishna, as depicted in the Mahabharata, along with a painting reflecting the culture of Punjab and Haryana. The students, a mix of those from the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and the Master of Fine Arts (MFA), have been allocated Rs 44 lakh for the purpose.

They have been given May 10 as the deadline for the completion of the work. “The two-horse cart and painting have already been installed at the upcoming airport. Since their exams are under way, our students work on this assignment everyday from 5 pm onwards. Sometimes, they end up sticking around till midnight to meet the target,” said Prof Rajesh Kumar Sharma, one of the faculty members who has been guiding the students in the job.

The international airport is likely to be inaugurated this year, though the exact date is yet to be officially announced.
