CBI sleuths today laid a trap at the Mini-Secretariat, Punjab, Sector 9, and arrested a superintendent and a clerk, both posted in the Transport Department, Punjab, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

The superintendent has been identified as Rajiv Kumar Sharma while the clerk has been identified as Jaswinder Singh.

The CBI sleuths said they had received a complaint that the accused were demanding a bribe from the complainant, also an employee of the same department, who was dismissed on certain allegations against him after which he approached the office of the Special Secretary, Transport Department, requesting for the cancellation of his dismissal order.

The Special Secretary cancelled the dismissal order and order a fresh inquiry.

It was further alleged that the superintendent and the clerk were dealing with the complainant’s file and had demanded a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from him for clearing his matter.

The accused allegedly told the complainant that in case the bribe was not paid, orders would be passed against him.

The CBI sleuths claimed that after negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 1 lakh.

The CBI then laid a trap in which both officials were caught while taking the bribe of Rs 50,000 each.

Sources said searches were being conducted at the residences of both the accused in Chandigarh and Mohali.
