Chandigarh, May 19
While the Panchkula police claimed to have arrested Amandeep Singh, alias Mani, and Harjinder Singh, alias Ladi, from the Chandimandir area in the murder case of bouncer Amit Sharma, alias Meet, a video of Mani and Ladi today went viral in which the duo claimed to have surrendered before the Panchkula CIA on May 18.
In the 41-second video, Ladi claimed that both of them were going to surrender before the Panchkula CIA on May 18. They claimed that they were falsely implicated in the case. The clothes of the duo shown in the video are the same which they were wearing in photos released by the Panchkula police on May 18 night after their “arrest”. The Panchkula police, in a press note issued on May 18, had claimed that acting on secret information, a joint team of the CIA and the Mansa Devi police station arrested them from the Chandimandir railway station while they were planning to leave for Delhi.
Despite repeated calls and SMSes, Panchkula Police Commissioner RC Mishra and DCP Ashok Kumar could not be contacted for comments.
10-day police remand
The Panchkula police on Friday produced the accused, Mani and Ladi, in the District Courts, which remanded them in 10-day police custody. While seeking their remand, the police submitted that they wanted to recover the weapon, the car and the mobile phone used in the crime. Besides, they also wanted to know the details of Munish, another accused, from them.
Mani, Ladi tightlipped in court
Though the video has gone viral, when journalists asked them about the viral video when they were produced in the Panchkula District Courts on Friday, the duo remain tightlipped. In the courtroom as well, they did not say anything when the police submitted their signed statement before the Judge and claimed both were involved in Meet’s killing.
What police say
A police official said both accused were hardcore criminals and the video was circulated “to divert the attention and to take benefit” in the court.
