SUV drags DJ to death at Airport light point

CHANDIGARH: A thirty-year-old DJ was killed after a recklessly driven Innova car hit the victim’s two-wheeler from the rear and dragged the scooter for around100 meters at the Airport light point on the intervening night of November 28 and 29.

A thirty-year-old DJ was killed after a recklessly driven Innova car hit the victim’s two-wheeler from the rear and dragged the scooter for around100 meters at the Airport light point on the intervening night of November 28 and 29. The accused managed to flee from the spot, but, was chased by two motorists. The accused abandoned the vehicle at Industrial Area, Phase II, and fled to the nearby forest area. Acting swiftly, the police conducted a search. A youth accompanying the accused driver was arrested from the Industrial Area, Phase II, while the main accused, a student of a private university, managed to flee.

The police said Ravi Sharma (30), a resident of Baltana, was riding a scooter followed by his friend Hardeep Kumar who was driving another scooter. Both were returning home after having dinner.

Both were driving towards Zirakpur when the Innova car hit Ravi’s scooter from the rear at the light point at around 12.25 am.

The accused kept driving the vehicle and dragged the victim along with the scooter before finally stopping his car. Two families who were driving towards Zirakpur also stopped.

The two accused then decided to flee from the spot and took a u-turn and began driving back towards Chandigarh. The two families began chasing the accused. The accused entered Industrial Area, Phase II, when the tyres of their car became flat, they were forced to abandon the vehicle. They then fled to a nearby forest area.

The police teams reached the spot and launched a search operation.

Inspector Jasbir Singh, SHO of the Sector 31 police station, who was on night patrolling reached the accident spot and took the victim to the PGI.

The police managed to arrest Kuljeet Singh, a native of Rajasthan. Kuljeet claimed that Amritpal Singh, alias Preet, a native of Abohar, who is a student of a private university in Mohali district, was driving the vehicle.

Police officials said that raids were being conducted to arrest the accused driver. The victim was unmarried and staying with his parents. The postmortem will be conducted on Monday.
