Chandigarh, April 21

After VC Arun Kumar Grover adjourned the Syndicate meeting on Saturday, all 13 syndics, who were present at the meeting, went into a huddle at the PU Guest House and drafted a letter to the VC.

The Syndicate has a strength of 15, but 13 were present. Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon and Dr Subhash Sharma did not attend the meeting.

In a letter to the VC, the syndics have asked him to withdraw the affidavit filed by him in the interest of “image and prestige of the university and the members of the Senate of Panjab University”. The letter added that “as the members of the Senate and Syndicate are hurt and disturbed due to the filing of the affidavit, the same may be withdrawn immediately to undo the damage”.

The VC replied to the syndics that: “I hereby inform that I shall file another submission in the court stating that the affidavit filed was drafted by me and it is indeed based on my personal comprehensions. This ought not to be considered as the opinion of the governing bodies of Panjab University. I shall also add that the two documents, one relating to the financial concerns and the other related to the “governance reforms” submitted to the court on October 20, 2016, were also collated by me personally, though submitted by the office of the Registrar, Panjab University.”

He clarified that he had not made any observations related to any individual Senate member in the affidavit. “I sincerely regret the anguish caused to member (s) by my comprehensions.”
