Chandigarh, May 15

The joint action committee (JAC) of Chandigarh teachers organised a protest at Rally Ground, Sector 25, on Tuesday.

The teachers were opposing the Education Department for its alleged proposal of quashing the recruitment of nursery training teachers (NTTs), junior basic teachers (JBTs) and training graduate teachers (TGTs) appointed in 2015 after the service of two years and 10 months. Earlier, the probation period of these teachers was extended in July 2017 because of the police investigation.

Bhag Singh Kairon, President JAC, stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Chandigarh Police and the six-member committee constituted by the Governor had recommended quashing the whole recruitment even prior to the framing of charges against the accused.

He added that over 800 meritorious teachers who were found innocent in the inquiry were under continuous mental pressure regarding their job insecurity. Chairman of the JAC, Shavinder Singh, said several teachers married after the recruitment and if the recruitment was cancelled, it would be unfair.
