The Zirakpur police today arrested three youths on the charge of assaulting a traffic constable and tearing off his uniform.
The accused have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar, all residents of Panchkula.
Prem Singh, the victim, said the incident took place on the Saturday morning when the victim was manning the Zirakpur-Patiala traffic signal. The constable spotted the youths who were riding triple on an Activa coming from the Dera Bassi side and signalled them to stop. The accused were also not wearing a helmet, said the constable.
The victim constable told the police that when he asked the youths for their driving licence and other documents, the three youths started misbehaving with him.
The argument soon turned into a fight and the youths attacked the constable and tore off his uniform. The victim also punched him in the face, said a constable.
The Zirakpur police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC against the three accused at the Zirakpur police station.
