Thrice in a month: Police use water cannons, six teachers hurt

PANCHKULA:Six teachers sustained injuries after the police used water cannons during a protest by computer teachers and lab assistants in front of Shiksha Sadan in Sector 5 here on Monday evening.

Six teachers sustained injuries after the police used water cannons during a protest by computer teachers and lab assistants in front of Shiksha Sadan in Sector 5 here on Monday evening.

In the past one month, this was the third time when computers teachers were injured after the police used water cannons in Sector 5. 

The protestors raised slogans against the Haryana Government and the Haryana Education Department for not accepting their demands. 

The protesters demanded a hike in their salaries which was “promised” by the government to them. They also demanded salaries during their winter/summer vacation and salaries to the women staff on maternity leave.

As computer teachers and lab assistants marched towards Shiksha Sadan, which is the headquarters of the Education Department, the police barricaded the area. When they tried to cross the barricade, the police used water cannons on them.


Protesters demand
