Chandigarh, June 24
The UT Administration has asked Stup Constructions, a Mumbai-based consultant, to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for construction of a flyover at Tribune Chowk, one of the busiest junctions in the city.
Sources said the UT Administration would send the DPR to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take the project to the next stage. The NHAI will provide funds and issue a tender for the work on the basis of the DPR.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had announced the project during his visit to the city in 2016 following a demand by local MP Kirron Kher.
After getting approval from the Union ministry, the Administration had engaged the consultant for Rs 1.85 crore to prepare a detailed report of the project.
The consultant has suggested a flyover connecting Chandigarh with the flyover at Zirakpur. An elevated road has also been proposed from Chandigarh to Zirakpur.
The project is a combination of a flyover at about 9 to 10-metre height on Dakshin Marg and an underpass on Purv Marg for vehicles going towards Mohali and southern sectors.
