Tricity MC Commissioners to decide next step on July 3

CHANDIGARH: To tackle the dog menace, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will host a joint meeting of the tricity MC Commissioners and nodal officers of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme on July 3 in the conference hall of the MC, Chandigarh, to discuss further course of action.

To tackle the dog menace, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will host a joint meeting of the tricity MC Commissioners and nodal officers of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme on July 3 in the conference hall of the MC, Chandigarh, to discuss further course of action.

The decision has been taken in the meeting of the monitoring committee of the ABC (dogs) held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of UT MC Commissioner KK Yadav.

Yadav has also asked the medical officer (health) to notify some areas in the city where the public can feed stray dogs. It would be started in one sector as a pilot project and will be replicated throughout the city after successful results. The Commissioner also instructed the committee members to visit the centre of sterilisation and put up the report regarding the renovation work, facilities provided at site and required facilities to support technical functions.

He said the basic hygiene and proper cleanliness, besides provision of security and CCTV cameras be ensured at the sterilisation centre.

Dr Kanwarjit Singh, Joint Director, and Dr Bajwa, veterinary officer, Animal husbandry, UT, Chandigarh, Payal Sodhi from the PFA, BDPO, Dr Pardeep Visheshi, Medical Officer of Health and Dr MS Kamboj, superintendent, slaughter house, MC, Chandigarh attended the meeting

During the meeting, various issues were discussed and the issue of creating awareness among masses about sharing responsibility and involvement of citizens was discussed at large. The Commissioner asked the officers concerned of the MC to chalk out a comprehensive plan to create awareness regarding the ABC programme.

Yadav also asked animal husbandry doctors about the status of census of dogs in Chandigarh and the members apprised that there was full preparation of digital census, which would be completed as per the national protocol from August or September this year and teams have been formed for the purpose.

The Commissioner asked the MOH to amend terms and conditions of tenders to be floated regarding dog sterilisation.

He said tentative figure of leftover dogs and manpower be required for operating be specified in the conditions. He said proper verification of dog-bite cases in dispensaries be recorded to define the data as the most of cases were reported from neighoubring cities.

The Commissioner also asked the officers concerned of the MCC to prepare a comprehensive report regarding the ABC programme, dog bite cases, census and other activities done in this regard by this Monday.
