Chandigarh, September 23

The long-drawn construction work of a tunnel to connect two phases of the Terraced Garden, Sector 33, continues to trouble residents as the road outside it has been lying closed.

Since the work started last year, it remained closed for commuters. This has been causing a huge inconvenience to commuters, especially Sector 33 residents. To go towards Sector 34, they take a complete round of another side of the sector.

Not knowing about the construction here, some commuters first come to this damaged road and later have to take a turn to another long route in disappointment.

“Residents are very troubled due to this. Even shopkeepers in the adjoining market complain of suffering losses. But, the authorities are not listening to us,” said Jagdish Sarpal, president of the Resident Welfare Association, Sector 33.

Senior Deputy Mayor and area councillor Rajesh Kumar Gupta, said, “We have partially opened the road and by next week, it will be opened completely for the public. I have personally taken up the issue with officials.”— TNS
