Uniform garbage collection rates to be decided today

Several important decisions, including deciding the uniform rates of garbage collection for households and commercial units and allotting of booths in different 

locations will be decided in a house meeting of Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.

Ahead of the wet and dry garbage segregation scheme scheduled to be launched on June 5, the civic body will be fixing the rates, which are at presently different from place to place and taken directly by garbage collectors. The plans are charges will be added to water, sewerage or property tax bills of the residents. For households, the prices will be fixed between Rs 50 to 100. For commercial units, it has been proposed that booths will be paying Rs 50 and restaurant ground floor 150 per bay per floor. These will be taken up tomorrow for final approval by the house.

Besides this, the matter regarding allotting booths, which have been lying vacant for years, will also be decided. At present, 112 booths in Mauli Jagran and 40 shops in Sector 17 are awaiting auction. The MC has suffered a loss of crores with them lying vacant. A budget will also be passed and decided for renovation and upgrade of cremation ground in Hallo Majra. Along with this, a contract for the supply of 84 drivers and 58 helpers will be decided upon.
