UT cop on song to sensitise people to road safety

“Sadka te kai sapne choor hunde dekhe ne, apne to apne dur hunde dekhe ne” (I have seen many dreams being shattered on roads and people losing their loved ones). This is not a song by some Punjabi singer, but by a UT cop posted in the traffic wing, who has penned down the lyrics and sung the song to sensitise motorists to road safety and traffic rules.

Singing songs at various police functions and public gatherings is an innovative way devised by Head Constable Bhupinder Singh to spread awareness among the masses.

In the past over two years since Bhupinder got posted in the traffic wing, he has written 15 songs on road safety. 

Bhupinder, who has been interested in music and singing since his younger days, says music has a lot of influence on an individual’s life, especially that of the youth, following which he decided to constructively utilise his talent and pen down songs to sensitise them to road safety. 

There is a wide range of songs written by Bhupinder that emphasises on various important issues, including safe driving, encouraging women to wear helmets and say no to drunken driving.

The latest song Bhupinder came up with is “bina gal te horn kyu bajaye janda hae” (why are you honking without any reason) to support the ongoing campaign of the traffic police against honking in the city. However, that’s not the end. The talented cop is soon coming up with a song on wrong parking in the city. “I have many ideas in my mind and will keep writing songs on social issues that benefit society,” he says. 

A few of Bhupinder’s songs are also available as caller tunes. SSP (Traffic and Security) Shashank Anand is also an admirer of Bhupinder’s songs and has Bhupinder’s song as a caller tune on his official number. 

Bhupinder also performed during the 29th Road Safety Week, observed by the Chandigarh Police recently.
