Chandigarh, November 3

The UT Administration has proposed a five-time increase in the lease money of the Chandigarh Club.

The club is presently paying around Rs 1.78 lakh per month as lease rent. The Administration has now proposed to increase it to Rs 9 lakh a month. The new rates have been proposed after the Administration carried out a joint survey of the land under the occupation of the club management.

The Administration has formed a committee under the chairmanship of the Finance Secretary Ajoy Kumar Sinha to revise the lease deed of the club, which had expired in 2010. Besides, Deputy Commissioner and Additional Secretary, Estate Office, Sandeep Sahni and Mukesh Bassi, president and former president of the club, respective, are the members of the committee.

The issue of fixing the lease deed has been pending for seven years.

Mukesh Bassi said, “Nothing has been finalised yet, but we are requesting the Administration for a reasonable and affordable hike in the lease rent as the club is doing social service.” He added that a meeting of the club executive committee had been convened in view of the UT proposal and the decision would be conveyed to the committee headed by the Finance Secretary.
