Chandigarh, November 16

The SDM (South) today got a notice of “eviction of unauthorised occupants” pasted on the Lok Priya Buildwell Pvt Ltd property on which the JW Marriott hotel is running in Sector 35.

The notice mentions that the lease of the property stands cancelled from November 10 and since then the occupation of the site is unauthorised. On that day, the corporation had ordered the cancellation of the lease of Lok Priya Ltd for the said land for not paying the ground rent and service tax, amounting to around Rs 8 crore.

The notice issued by SDM (South) Saurav Mishra has asked the firm to show cause on November 21 at 2.30 pm before the Estate Officer why such an order of eviction should not be made. The notice has been issued to Lok Priya Ltd and all persons concerned who are in occupation of the hotel site.

MC officials said they had written to Lok Priya Ltd on several occasions to clear the dues, but it failed to do so following which they had to cancel the lease.

In a statement yesterday, JW Marriott had claimed that the matter was being resolved. According to MC sources, Lok Priya Ltd has been facing this case since 2012. The annual lease money for the place is Rs 2.5 crore. However, the firm has not paid the amount for the past few years and it has accumulated to nearly Rs 8 crore. — TNS
