Violations galore at parking lots

Despite the Vigilance probe, violations continue at parking lots across the city. The violations were detected by teams of the Municipal Corporation, who inspected 22 parking lots in the past 15 days.

On the basis of these reports, the civic body will now issue notices to parking lot contractors.

Sources said the violations included the non-display parking rates, non-installation of e-ticketing machine, parking attendants without name plate, haphazard parking and lack of proper marking for vehicles.

A senior MC official said the MC would now take steps to streamline the entire paid parking system in the city. “Notices will also be issued to the erring parking lot contractors,” he said.

After an inquiry into violations at the paid parking lots outside Elante Mall and Sector 35, departmental action against various MC officials.

Licences of contractors terminated last year

After the Vigilance probe last year, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation had terminated licences of the contractors at Elante Mall and Sukhna Lake parking lots as the replies submitted by them to the show-cause notices issued by the MC were found to be unsatisfactory.
