Woman dies as tipper hits scooter

MOHALI: A young woman was killed while her acquaintance sustained serious injuries in an accident on Airport Road near Bakarpur village here today.

A young woman was killed while her acquaintance sustained serious injuries in an accident on Airport Road near Bakarpur village here today.

Both victims were yet to be identified, said Inspector Rajan Parwinder Singh, SHO of the Sohana police station. He, however, said the deceased belonged to Kurukshetra in Haryana.

Both victims are believed to be in their 20s. According to the SHO, the victims were on their way to the Mohali side on an Activa scooter when a tipper hit them near Bakarpur Chowk today.

“They were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where one of them was declared brought dead. The injured was referred to the PGI by doctors there,” said the SHO. Her condition is stated to be critical.

The tipper driver fled from the spot, leaving his vehicle behind. “The vehicle has been impounded,” said the SHO.

A case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the tipper at the Sohana police station.
