Panchkula: The Panchkula police found the body of a woman on the Panchkula-Shimla National Highway. As the body was in a decomposed condition, the police could not identify it. The police said the woman must have been around 26-30 years. The woman seemed to have been murdered. The police found a pair of sleepers and two pieces of cloth close to the body. The woman was wearing a red suit. The police have kept the body at the mortuary of the Kalka Community Health Centre (CHC). TNS

Hit by bus, biker dies

Morinda: A biker died when a bus hit him on the Ludhiana road here on Thursday. The bus, after hitting the bike, overturned, resulting in minor injuries to three passengers. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was coming from the Ludhiana side. It tried to overtake another bus and hit the motorcyclist coming from the opposite side. The victim has been identified as Karamjit Singh (60), a resident of Maanpur village. Following this, the bus overturned and passengers Ramesh, Maya and Ram Lal were injured. They were administered first aid at the local government hospital. TNS

One held for illegal mining

Dera Bassi: The local police registered a case in connection with illegal mining and arrested one person with a loaded tipper on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Taalib, a resident of Wasalpur village, Naraingarh, Ambala. According to the police, a naka was laid on the Mubarikpur-Kakrali stretch near Chitvan Palace here on Thursday. The accused, who was coming from the Haryana side with a gravel-loaded tipper, was signalled to stop. The police said he could not produce valid documents about the material loaded in the vehicle. A case has been registered under the Mining Act at the Dera Bassi police station. OC

Assault: Two youths booked 

Zirakpur: Acting on the complaint of Vikramjeet Singh (19), a resident of Jamuna Enclave, Zirakpur, the police have booked two youths in an assault case under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Vikaramjeet stated in the complaint that on May 9 around 4 pm, he was on the way to meet a friend at Silver City Extension in Zirakpur. When he reached near the Silver City intersection, a youth kept blaring the horn of his car and abused him. He further stated that a few minutes later, another youth, Bikram Chaudhary, also joined and physically assaulted him. OC 

Child-friendly facilitation centre 

Mohali: A child-friendly facilitation centre, first in Punjab, was set up at the District Administrative Complex in Mohali. Here complaints regarding sexual assault of child can be lodged and requisite help will be provided to the victims. Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra and District Sessions Judge Archna Puri were present on the occasion. Sapra said, “Now, sexually exploited children need not to go to the police station for lodging their complaints. A homelike atmosphere has been maintained here so that victims could file complaints and explain their problems without any fear. The victim will get speedy justice.” She said special camps would be organised in schools and colleges to generate awareness about the new anti-rape law. Complaints or information regarding sexual assault could be given at toll free number 1098.
