Work starts on serai at PGI

Chandigarh: The construction work on the Infosys-Red Cross serai at the PGI, the foundation stone of which was laid last year by Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Home Affairs, has started. According to officials of the Indian Red Cross Society, UT Branch, the work is going on a war footing and the project is expected to be completed well in time.

The construction work on the Infosys-Red Cross serai at the PGI, the foundation stone of which was laid last year by Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Home Affairs, has started. According to officials of the Indian Red Cross Society, UT Branch, the work is going on a war footing and the project is expected to be completed well in time.

The serai is one of the biggest projects undertaken by the Indian Red Cross Society, UT Branch, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). It will be first-of-its-kind patient shelter on the PGI campus, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, aimed at making the patients and their attendants’ stay at the PGI comfortable, informed officials of the Red Cross Society, Chandigarh.

The serai, being constructed on a total area of 40,000 square feet, will house a 316-bedded building, which has been designed to cater to the needs of patients and attendants visiting the PGI. 

Apart from that, the serai will have a waiting lounge, cloak room, kitchen, dining area and lifts. The building, construction of which has been undertaken by Infosys, is especially designed to be fully equipped with ultra-modern facilities like electrical and backup generators. 

The building also has a parking capacity of 40 four-wheelers in the basement with separate entry and exit ramps with an additional four-wheeler and two-wheeler parking at the surface level.
