Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh celebrated World Olympic Day here on Saturday by organising a couple of exhibition matches at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.



Chandigarh: Hockey Chandigarh celebrated World Olympic Day here on Saturday by organising a couple of exhibition matches at the Sector 42 Sports Complex. While Chandigarh Hockey Academy girls held Coaching Centre, Sector 18, to a 1-1 draw, SGGS School, Sector 26, beat Chandigarh Hockey Academy boys by a solitary goal. Former Olympians Rajpal Singh, Baljit Singh, SS Gill, Deepak Thakur, Inderjit Chadha, Dharamvir Singh and Dronacharya Awardee coach Rajinder Singh were also felicitated during the event. The association also honoured upcoming players Jaspreet Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Maninder Singh, Amandeep Singh, Sanjay, Manmeet Kaur and Monu with mementos and cash prizes. Meanwhile, Haryana Olympic Association celebrated the World Olympic Day with various sports events for children and youth in Panchkula. More than 500 athletes from all the districts of the state participated in the event. Harshdeep, Rudra, Nikhil, Ankush and Balraj bagged the top spots in the 6-10 years age-group, while Gagan, Ram Niwas and Paras were declared winners in the 11-15 years age-group category. — TNS
