City residents’ food will not go waste anymore as the leftovers will reach the hungry for the MC has tied up with an NGO that will be a call away to collect the food from households, birthday parties and marriage venues.

Besides, plans are also afoot to set up “roti banks” outside temples, gurdwaras and major markets so that people can leave food for the needy

“Rather than wasting food, we can utilise it. Rotis can be put inside roti banks or can be delivered at our office in Zirpakur and we will take these to the needy who sleep on an empty stomach,” said Sunita Sharma, whose SACH Foundation is taking the initiative forward.

“We held a meeting with the Mayor today and it was decided that we will take the initiative forward jointly,” she said.

Mayor Asha Jaswal said, “It pains to see so much food being thrown in gutters. This food can fill the stomach of the needy and this initiative will help us do so..”

People can also call on 9729798245 to give the leftovers.
