Youth stabbed to death in Sec 39

In a bizarre incident, two youths, aged about 20 years, brutally stabbed a person to death in a crowded booth market in Maloya Colony this evening. The victim, 22-year-old Mukesh, succumbed to his stab injuries at the PGI. The police have arrested the accused Akash, alias Polcia, while his accomplice Vivek is absconding.

Akash is the son of a head constable with the UT police posted in the CID wing.

The incident took place at 5.20 pm in the crowded booth market of Maloya Colony in Sector 39. A prior enmity is stated to be the reason behind the attack.

The incident occurred when the two accused saw Mukesh in the market and confronted him over a brawl two days ago. The three of them had also entered into a scuffle where kicks and blows were also exchanged.

A violent scuffle again ensued today, Akash pulled out a knife from his pocket and attacked Mukesh thrice in the arm, chest and thigh as passersby thronging the booth market witnessed the murder in utter shock and despair.

The two accused then fled the spot leaving Mukesh in a pool of blood. The police were called and a PCR van rushed the victim to the PGI where he was declared brought dead.

Police investigations revealed that Akash and Vivek used to pass scathing remarks on the victim over his name that had led to the scuffle among them. Mukesh was also called Baasi and the two mocked at him as “Baasi” meaning ‘stale’ and used to often taunt him.

Yesterday, Mukesh took an objection to the remark passed at him and had screamed and abused Akash and Vivek that had led to a violent scuffle. The two then decided to avenge their insult and planned to attack him today and killed him in the procees.

The police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC at the Sector 39 police station.

Mukesh hailed from Uttar Pradesh and resided in the city with his two elder brothers. SP City Parvinder Singh said the role of a third accused in the murder was also being verified and efforts were on to nab Vivek.
