Amritsar: A local court sentenced four drug smugglers, including two Pakistani nationals, to 12 years of imprisonment here on Wednesday. They were arrested by the state special operation cell in June 2015 from New Amritsar area with 2.50 kg of heroin. The Pakistani nationals are Mohammad Akbar and Rajif Mohammad, while their local accomplices are Sukhdev Singh and Surmukh Singh, residents of Kathunangal. The Pakistani citizens had entered India illegally.
Man duped of Rs 9 lakh
The Kamboh police have booked Kuldeep Singh of Rattan Singh Chowk area for allegedly duping Simranjit Singh of Thoba village. Simranjit alleged that the accused took Rs 9.5 lakh for sending him to Canada in July last year. He had submitted a complaint to the Amritsar rural police. J Elanchezian, SSP, Amritsar rural, ordered the registration of the case after a DSP rank official conducted a thorough probe.
Ornaments, cash stolen
The city police have booked Suraj, a resident of Ekta Nagar, Jhabal road, for allegedly burgling a house of Pritam Chand, a local resident. Chand, along with his family, had gone to Himachal. He was informed by his neighbours that the locks of his house were broken. Upon returning, he found gold and silver ornaments as well as Rs 80,000 missing. A case has been registered. No arrest has been made so far.
