As many as 25 candidates filed their nominations for the 11 constituencies in the district here today. Most prominent leaders are yet to submit their papers. Only two days are left for filing of nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections in Punjab.

Those who filed papers from the Ajnala constituency today, include Amrik Singh of SAD (Amritsar), Sukhdev Singh and Parminder Randhawa, both Independent candidates, Pawan Sareen of Shiv Sena, besides Rajpreet Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Tarun Chugh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed papers from the Amritsar (Central) constituency. His wife Radhika Chugh filed papers as the covering candidate. Meanwhile, Rakesh Gill of the BJP and Tarsem Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) filed their nominations from the Amritsar (West) constituency.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjer, and Sushil Kumar of the BSP filed their nominations from the Amritsar (South) constituency. Gulzar Singh Ranike of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Tarsem Singh DC of the Congress and Sukwant Jeet Kaur, an Independent candidate, filed their papers from the Attari (rural) constituency.

Malkiat Singh AR of SAD also filed his papers from the Baba Bakala constituency.

Senior leaders, who filed their papers, include Anil Joshi of the BJP from Amritsar (North), Raj Kumar Verka of the Congress from Amritsar (West) and Himmat Singh Shergill of the Aam Aadmi Party from Majitha.

Most candidates from prominent parties are expected to file their papers in the coming two days. The last date for submitting papers is January 18.
